Position: Head of Safety
Reports to: Chief Construction Officer
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Salary Range: $175,000 - $200,000

We consider several factors when preparing a compensation package, such as market location, experience, skills, and education.

The Superior Group is seeking a Head of Safety to lead safety initiatives across our operations. You will serve as the company’s subject matter expert in safety and will develop a team of high-performing safety professionals embedded on our jobsites. This position is based in Columbus, Ohio, and requires travel to construction jobsites in Ohio and other states.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the company’s leader and subject matter expert in safety
  • Direct proactive safety programs across all construction projects and operating facilities
  • Lead and develop a team of skilled safety personnel
  • Available 24/7 for critical incident investigations
  • Conduct regular jobsite inspections and audits to monitor safety practices
  • Lead investigations into accidents and equipment damage
  • Analyze trends in safety incidents and identify areas of improvement
  • Collaborate closely with Project Operations and Field Operations teams
  • Represent the company in safety-related hearings and audits with customers, insurance companies, and the Bureau of Worker’s Compensation
  • Utilize technologies to track trends and measure performance

Your Expertise

  • Required: You bring at least 12 years of experience as a safety professional in the construction industry 
  • Required: You have extensive experience with OSHA and EPA standards for construction
  • Required: You hold an active certification in at least one of the following:
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), 
    • Certified Safety Technician (CST), or 
    • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
  • Required: You’ve completed the OSHA 30-hour course
  • Required: You’re familiar with NEC, NFPA 70E, NESC, and have experience overseeing the NFPA 70E program
  • Bonus Points: You’ve completed the OSHA 500 Basic Instructor Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry
